Why this petition matters

Riverwood Landing property is nestled in the middle of a quiet neighborhood in West Owatonna.  Residents want to keep it that way.  The developer has recently proposed significant changes to the Riverwood Landing Project.  Instead of continuing the harmonious look of the area, the proposed design looks industrial, prefab, increases the density nearly 2 1/2 times, destroys the character of the area and markedly increases traffic.  Owatonna area residents, and those with a vested interest, are respectfully petitioning City Council and the developer, Brad Spitzack, to honor the original plans, designed to help preserve the character of the neighborhood.

We are circulating another petition concerning Riverwood Landings so that it will be submitted to the City Council.

Your immediate response and signature will be necessary.

We are asking that:

           1)   The prefab, industrial-looking design be rejected;

            2)  The approved architecture  remain as it was presented and approved by the City Council in the fall of 2019: similar in design to the existing 4-plex, an upscale design that fits in with Riverwood Drive (earth colors, balconies, sloped roof);

            3)   The units be market rate, and remain that way;

            4)   The development revert to what was previously advertised by the developer (96 units), not 235 units; and

            5)   The lighting for this project be downcast or “cut-off lighting” to reduce light pollution and glare;

              In the alternative, that the developer’s request be sent back to the Planning Commission for a public hearing with safeguards for our health during this pandemic.

            You can view the information and see the designs on the City of Owatonna Website.
